Meine Beschäftigung mit der Kunst ist prozessorientiert und intuitiv.
Die intensive sinnliche Erfahrung, die Leidenschaft während der Arbeit als Mittel zur Erkenntnis betrachte ich als zentrales Ziel meiner künstlerischen Auseinandersetzung.
Die Qualität meiner Bilder steht in direkter Relation zur Intensität meiner sinnlichen Erfahrung und zu meiner Fähigkeit zur Dauerbegeisterung, Verdichtung, Vertiefung, Konzentration und Selbstdisziplin beim Malen.
Den konzeptuellen Aspekt meiner Kunst - Recherche, Dokumentation, Kontext, sozial-politisches Engagement, Themenbezug - ordne ich dem malerischen Prozess unter.
Meine Bilder müssen auf verschiedenen Wahrnehmungsebenen erfahrbar sein.
Sowohl thematisch als auch formal sollte meine Kunst im Idealfall den Betrachter überraschen, emotionell bewegen und gedanklich beschäftigen.
Der menschliche Kopf mit seiner Physiognomie hat mich immer schon inspiriert und fasziniert und ist daher ein immer wiederkehrendes Bildmotiv.
Ich zeichne viel.
Ich male meistens gegenständliche Inhalte mit Ölfarben auf Leinwand.
Die expressive Gestik und der Arbeitsduktus sowohl in der Zeichnung als auch in der Malerei begeistern mich.
Das sinnliche Erlebnis der Malerei ist meine Motivation.
Meine Malerei bleibt immer offen, unfertig.
Meine Bilder sind Baustellen und Spielwiesen.
Fehler und Korrekturen bleiben sichtbar und werden zu Gestaltungsmittel.
Die subjektiven Grenzen meiner künstlerischen Freiheit auszuloten und stetig zu erweitern ist das zentrale Anliegen meiner Beschäftigung mit der Malerei.
Art doesn't want to be kind.
Its intention is to stir up, to change things.
Beauty can merely be a symptom.
In my opinion beauty plays in art anyway just a minor role, excepting the case that it becomes itself a topic.
I can bear beauty only when wrapped up in irony, caricature, cartoons, persiflage, kitsch, irritation or cynicism.
Regarding my way of painting I always begin with a framework, a structure.
Drawing is quite important but not sacred.
The process of transforming a blank canvas into a painting represents the main issue of my work and the canvas is my playground.
There's no such a thing like "the finished picture", except it's sold and I'm not allowed to paint it over.
The content, that has to intellectually or emotionally touch me, stands in my paintings in a controversial relation with the shape.
The ideal case comes up when tension, balance and expression grow out of lines, colours and shapes.
Not the "beautiful", but on the contrary, the formally and in its contents good work of art encourages reflection and extends our consciousness.
That's what I aim at.
